Cartoon of the Week: Danny Phantom

Once again I am providing free publicity for Nickelodeon by supporting there cartoon Danny Phantom. I would explain the plot of the show but the entire story is rapped in the coolest theme song ever...

" Yo Danny Phantom he was just 14
when his parents built a very strange machine
Designed to view a world unseen
(he's gonna catch em all cuz he's danny phantom phantom)

When it didn't quite work
his folks they just quit

then Danny took a look inside of it
there was a great big flash
every thing just changed
his molecules got all rearranged

(phantom phantom)

When he first woke up he had realized
he had snow white hair
and glowin green eyes
he could walk through walls
dissappear and fly
he was much more unique then the other guys
and it was then danny knew what he had to do
he had to stop all the ghosts that were comin through
he's here to fight for me and u

(he's gonna catch em all cuz he's danny phantom gonna catch em all
cuz he's danny phantom gonna catch em all cuz he's)

* He's Danny Phantom (whisper)

I think this song pretty much explains why this cartoon is the coolest show ever. It comes on every morning on Nicktoons t.v at 7AM and 7:30 AM

Gotta Catch Em All

I am sitting in study hall because once again I am being unfairly punished for being .5 seconds late to class. Just when I think there is no way of entertaining my self I notice a gathering at the front of the classroom. Three underclassmen Charlotte Hawkins, Robert Leverett, and my favorite freshmen Max Loparco are playing with Pokemon cards, yes you heard me Pokemon cards. This game is no joke, they were having a legit and intense battle with Pokemon cards. Of course I am rooting for my favorite freshmen Max Loparco. The battle intensifies as Robert throws down a Spinarak, and when Charlotte realizes she's lost she throws down the cards in anguish. This is a typical day in 5th period study hall.

Cherry Ice Cream Smile

The noise builds, and the song starts with the most thrilling series of drum beats you can imagine. No matter where you are or what you're doing you will immediately start beating on the nearest surface. If that doesn't catch you, beware the air guitar coming next. Duran Duran's song "Rio" is the perfect song for driving. As the song plays images fill my head of a high speed chase. Men in white shirts and sunglasses speeding through the city. If your a fan of eighties rock, this is a song you should add to your iTunes in the near future!

Disney Movie of the Week

On June 16, 1995 Walt Disney Feature Animation released its 33rd animated film, Pocahontas. The film was a dramatic interpretation of the settlement of Virgina and the meeting of the Indian Princess Pocahontas and explorer Captain John Smith. The film's premiere was held in Central Park,New York and still holds the world record for largest movie premiere ever with an attendance of over a 100,000 people.

The Disney Adaptation is filled with humorous moments, and memorable songs, songs that hit the billboard top 200 and went triple platinum in the year 1995. The most popular of these songs is Alan Menken's "Colors of the Wind". The last line in the song says "You can own the earth and still, all you'll own is earth until you can paint with all the colors of the wind." This message stands true today. In this song and film Pocahontas showed the settlers that simply taking over someones lands proved nothing until you understood the balance of nature. In this one song she taught John Smith and the viewers to see things through other peoples eyes, a lesson we could all learn from today.

Cartoon of the Week: The Avatar

Avatar: the Last Airbender is an Emmy award winning Nickelodeon television show, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It is set in four nations, earth, water, fire, and air. The four nations existed in peace until the Fire Nation attacked and upset the balance. "Only the Avatar, master of all four elements could stop them, but when the world needed him most he vanished." 100 years later, two water tribe siblings Sokka and Katara discover the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. The show is based on Aang's journey over the course of one year attempting to master all the elements and bring peace back to the world.

While the television show was designed for a younger audience, the show has captured the interest of viewers from all ages. It is far from your typical child's cartoon. In a period of thirty minutes the show explores everything from themes of love and honor to betrayal, violence, and war. This classic coming of age tale combines the Asian artistic influence with a riveting plot for the ultimate cartoon experience. If you haven't seen it yet, its is one cartoon you won't want to miss.
